Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Chemical Process Engineer to join our molten salt fabrication team. This hands-on role involves working directly with high-temperature molten salts, designing batch and semi-batch processes for industrial-scale halide salt production, developing automated systems for salt production, EHS development and management, implementation of quality standards in molten salt production processes, and working as a team to manage and improve salt production processes.
The ideal candidate will be comfortable working in a laboratory environment with high-temperature systems and have experience designing, optimizing and controlling industrial chemical processes, recording data, creating industrial process systems and components, designing and managing instrumentation and control systems, and be familiar with chemical characterization methods such as ICP-MS and SEM-EDX. A strong background in laboratory operations, Engineering Health and Safety (EHS) design and implementation, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety are essential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and oversee the commissioning and operation of a process and facility involving beryllium salts.
- Maintain the quality of the process and identifying while implementing improvements.
- Operate equipment in an inert atmosphere glovebox.
- Maintain accurate records of processes, material usage, and purification procedures.
- Work with a team to complete complex tasks and accurately characterize results.
- Work closely with EHS to ensure worker safety in and around beryllium work areas.
- Design and oversee sample analysis using ICP-MS (Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry) to determine effectiveness and efficiency of automated processes.
- Work closely with EHS to ensure worker safety in and around beryllium work areas.
- Train technicians on analytical methods.
- Assist on the production floor as needed.
- Assist with development and implementation of industrial protocols and safety procedures.
Qualifications:
- Required:
- Bachelors or Masters degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, or a similar field.
- Demonstrated experience working in a laboratory environment.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Experience with developing, monitoring, and leading groups in adhering to EHS protocols.
- Strong ability to communicate through oral and written communication, conveying results, challenges, and recommendations for progress.
- Strong knowledge of process engineering, instrumentation and controls, and industrial production processes.
- Preferred:
- Familiarity with analytical instruments and industrial equipment Experience handling molten salts or high-temperature materials and equipment.
- Experience working with molten Fluoride Salts.
- Prior use of gloveboxes or working under inert gas environments.
- Familiarity with laboratory software/data systems.
- Knowledge of uranium chemistry, uranium safety and handling procedures, and uranium licensing requirements for agreement states.
Work Environment:
- Exposure to high temperatures, chemical handling, and in-glovebox operations.
- Full-body personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn as required.
- Training will be provided for specific procedures and equipment operation.
- Active involvement in physical buildout of industrial halide salt production facilities.
